Magical Miyajima

Well, I made it!
Here I am at one of the most photographed sites in Japan - the famous red torii on Miyajima island, off the coast of Hiroshima-ken.
The day was spectacular. Thanks to Dan, Jen and Ellen-sama for being the perfect tour buddies.
The sun was out, the momiji were bright and there were deep fried mushrooms!

  • I love Miyajima! I've never seen the torii when the tide was out. What time were you there?

  • We got there about midday and then the tide slowly came in over the afternoon. It was cool to touch it and see all the barnacles.
It's amazing - made of wood. Ellen told me it isn't dug in to the sand underneath, the structure just balances on the sand.
