Magical Miyajima

Here I am at one of the most photographed sites in Japan - the famous red torii on Miyajima island, off the coast of Hiroshima-ken.
The day was spectacular. Thanks to Dan, Jen and Ellen-sama for being the perfect tour buddies.
The sun was out, the momiji were bright and there were deep fried mushrooms!

I love Miyajima! I've never seen the torii when the tide was out. What time were you there?

We got there about midday and then the tide slowly came in over the afternoon. It was cool to touch it and see all the barnacles.
It's amazing - made of wood. Ellen told me it isn't dug in to the sand underneath, the structure just balances on the sand.
